To the Editor:
Toni Weaver’s July 3 letter titled “The Truth About Transgender” did not address the question about The Equality Act. It was a very good letter about approaching public restrooms cautiously, and it provided an internet address if you want to learn more about transgender issues. The Equality Act is misnamed.
Contrary to the “identity politics” agenda of the Democratic Party and what they want you to believe, there are differences between boys and girls, and between men and women.
There are X chromosomes and Y chromosomes, and there are also hormones called testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. The elimination of discrimination is a laudable goal, and there are already a number of existing laws that prohibit discrimination.
The question is whether the federal government should pass a new additional law that infringes upon the rights of another individual, whether that person is a female high school track athlete or a woman who uses the locker room of the local YMCA.
Toni Weaver’s letter did not respond to that question. Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood have voted in favor of this flawed legislation. Hopefully, it will never become law.
