A Crystal Lake South teacher and coach has resigned after a police investigation into claims he had an "inappropriate relationship" with a student.

Jay Mueller, who has not been charged with a crime, resigned Aug. 9 as head girls soccer coach and chemistry teacher, according to a school board meeting agenda Community High School District 155 released Friday.

The Crystal Lake Police Department has closed its investigation and does not expect charges to be filed against Mueller, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said in an email Friday.

District 155 officials sent a letter to parents and teachers May 15 stating that Mueller had been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation was ongoing.
