Crystal Lake South has made hires for vacant softball and girls soccer head coaching positions, pending Community High School District 155 Board approval at its monthly meeting Tuesday.
According to the school board agenda released Friday, Patrick Kelly will become head softball coach, and Kyle McCaughn will take over as head girls soccer coach.
Kelly takes the reins from former softball coach Scott Busam. After coaching South for 15 seasons, Busam announced his resignation this month to spend more time with his family.
Kelly serves as an assistant coach for South’s softball and football programs. The Gators' softball team is coming off a 32-3 season and its first outright Fox Valley Conference championship since 1986.
McCaughn coached the Gators’ varsity girls basketball team from 2001 to 2014. He coached the team to five 20-win seasons and one Class 4A regional title, according to records at IHSA.org.
McCaughn takes over the girls soccer program from former coach Jay Mueller, who resigned his coaching and teaching positions last month amid a police investigation into allegations that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a student. Mueller was not charged with a crime. He coached the Gators for six seasons.
