Crystal Lake Central co-op senior Molly Lyne fired a 1-over par 73 on Saturday to finish tied for fifth at the IHSA Class 2A Girls Golf State Tournament at Hickory Point in Decatur.
Lyne, who was tied for 11th after Friday's first round, made three birdies Saturday to finish with a two-day total of 5-over 149.
The fifth-place effort was Lyne's best state finish since she came in third as a freshman.
“Today, honestly, I played the whole way really well,” Lyne said. “I putted a lot better than yesterday. I was really trying to play well but enjoy myself, too, for my last career round in high school.”
Lyne, who will play at Louisville, knew she was in contention on the back nine.
“I was near the lead, but I fell two shots short,” said Lyne, who attends Cary-Grove. “I played great today. I can’t ask for much more than that.”
Jacobs senior Roslyn Leitner shot 81 to tie for 32nd with a two-day total of 159.
Barrington's Mara Janess prevailed over Glenbrook South's Maria Perakis in a one-hole playoff for the individual title after both finished with a two-day total of 147.
Stevenson carded a 25-over 601 to edge Barrington by one stroke for the team championship.
Class 1A Girls: At Red Tail in Decatur, Marian Central junior Lauren McNulty shot a 6-over 78 in Saturday's second round.
McNulty's two-day total of 158 was good for a 20th-place finish. Johnsburg junior Ellie Johnson (78-81–159) finished one shot behind to tie for 21st.
Eureka's Allison Pacocha shot a 3-under 69 Saturday to win the individual title by four shots with a two-day total of 142.
Class 2A Boys: At Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Crystal Lake South placed seventh in the team standings with a 56-over total of 624 for the two-day tournament.
Senior John Lishchynsky (75-77–152) and junior Will Stewart (72-80–152) tied for 15th place. Junior Ricky Falbo (79-78–157) and senior Jack Roberts (86-81–167) rounded out the scoring for the Gators.
Prairie Ridge junior Eddie Winkelmann (74-80–154) tied for 22nd.
Boylan's T.J. Baker had a hole-in-one on the par-3 seventh Saturday and finished 8 under for the tournament to win the individual title. Peoria Notre Dame won the team championship with a two-day score of 607.
Class 3A Boys: At The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington, McHenry senior Truman Keppy tied for sixth with a 2-over 146 (73-73) for the tournament.
Crystal Lake Central sophomore Eric Klutke rallied from 32nd after the first round to finish tied for ninth. Klutke had six birdies in Saturday's second round for a 2-under 70, which gave him a two-day total of 149.
Lockport's Ben Sluzas won the individual title with a 4-under 140.
Class 1A Antioch Sectional: Johnsburg’s doubles team of Kamile Aleksaite and Gracie Cittadino won the doubles title to qualify for the IHSA Class 1A State Tournament, which starts Thursday.
Woodstock North, led by singles qualifier Aly Cullotta, won the sectonal title with 15 points. Carmel and Grayslake Central tied for second with 14.
Richmond-Burton’s Savannah Webb took second in singles to qualify. Cullotta was third in singles.
Class 2A Cary-Grove Sectional: Jacobs’ Chloe Siegfort lost to Barrington’s Madeline Hills in the championship match but qualified for the IHSA Class 2A State Tournament, which starts Thursday.
Siegfort and Huntley’s Ruhi Gulati (third) advanced in singles.
Jacobs’ doubles team of Lindsay Cunningham and Isha Desai defeated C-G’s Alina Krembruszewski and Karina Los for third place in doubles. Both teams qualified for state.
Oregon 2, Marian Central 0: At the Class 1A Johnsburg Regional, the Hurricanes' season came to a close with a regional championship loss to Oregon.
Marian ends its season with a 9-14 record.
Plainfield Harvest Festival: Crystal Lake Central (30-3) went 4-1 in the tournament, falling to two-time defending Class 4A state champion Marist, 25-23, 25-17, in the championship match.
The Tigers defeated Normal U-High and Plainfield North in matches Saturday to reach the title match.
Karina Simatos and Maddy McCormick were named to the all-tournament team. McCormick had 36 kills for the tournament, with a match-high 12 kills against Moline on Friday.
Simatros topped Central’s serving with 13 aces. Grace Levin added 55 assists and 15 digs, Madde Blake had 19 kills, six aces and 44 digs, Camryn Hausler had 47 assists and 18 kills.
Woodstock North Invitational: At Woodstock, the host Thunder went 3-2 at the two-day tournament to take third place out of 12 teams.
The Thunder went 2-0 Friday with wins over Harlem, 25-16, 25-16, and IMSA, 25-14, 25-16. On Saturday, North finished 1-2, losing to Kaneland, 25-9, 25-8, and Waunakee (Wisconsin), 25-17, 27-25, before defeating Marengo, 17-25, 25-19, 15-11.
Brooke Amann led North (18-15) with 58 kills, 41 digs and nine aces for the tournament. Kylie Schulze had 103 assists, 26 digs and five aces. Alyssa Wickersheim had 28 kills and 28 digs, Kaitlyn Wickersheim provided 34 digs, and Cadence Klasek had six kills and 10 blocks.
Marengo (19-11-4) went 2-3 with wins Friday over Rockford East, 25-17, 25-19, and Grant, 25-22, 21-25, 15-6. The Indians lost to Woodstock North on Saturday along with losses to Waunakee, 20-25, 25-15, 15-11, and Kaneland, 25-8, 25-11.
Lillie Simons finished the tournament with 46 kills and 15 blocks. Kaetlyn Jeschke had 64 digs and four aces, Alexis Kunde provided 19 kills and four aces, Lilly Johnson had 70 assists and 13 kills, Isabella Simonini totaled 19 kills, and Mia Lulinski had 11 blocks and five kills.
Harvard (2-31) lost in its five matches in the tournament.
Elgin Tournament: At Elgin, Dundee-Crown went 2-3 at the event with wins over Elgin Academy, 25-15, 20-25, 15-12, and Elgin, 25-7, 25-21.
The Chargers (8-19) suffered losses to South Elgin, 25-11, 25-13, St. Edward, 25-15, 25-23, and Leyden, 25-21, 25-19.
Mackenzie Field paced D-C with 29 kills, 20 aces and three blocks. Makena Wesol added 28 kills, 24 digs and five aces. Natalia Smiech had 24 kills, 27 digs and four aces. Kylie Hanson had 48 assists, and Mia Seaton had 27 digs.
Maine West Pumpkin Invitational: At Des Plaines, Jacobs (15-16) picked up three wins in five matches to take 10th place.
The Golden Eagles defeated Hoffman Estates, 25-14, 25-21, Lake Zurich, 25-16, 25-20, and Palatine, 23-25, 25-13, 25-19. They suffered losses to Addison Trail, 25-16, 21-25, 17-15, and Maine South, 25-13, 25-20.
Maggie Wallenberger racked up 59 kills, eight aces, 27 digs and six blocks. Ireland Van Stone had 27 kills, seven aces and 29 digs. Jaclyn Poirier added 22 kills and 13 aces, and Rachel Kaczorowski provided 107 assists, 12 kills, seven aces and 30 digs.
Grayslake North Tournament: Hanna Berry had 28 kills in two matches as the Blue Streaks (27-4) lost a pair of matches, 2-1, in the Knights’ tournament.
The Streaks fell to Fremd 25-18, 25-20, 16-14. They also lost to Grayslake North 19-25, 25-18, 15-10.
Emma Brand had seven kills and eight blocks for the day. Sophie Wicker had 47 assists, eight kills and three aces. Ella Wicker added 12 digs.
Glenbard East Autumnfest: At Lombard, Prairie Ridge won the Silver Bracket for ninth overall in the tournament. The Wolves (18-15) defeated Geneva, Downers Grove North and Wheaton Warrenville South in their matches Saturday.
Opposite hitter Trinity Sheridan was named to the all-tournament team. Sheridan had 36 kills for the day, while Hannah Baudin had 69 assists. Olivia Jost had 24 digs, and Claire Emery had four blocks in the win over Wheaton Warrenville South for the bracket title.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Kishwaukee River Conference Meet: At Emricson Park in Woodstock, Marengo’s Luke Chaffin won the individual title by 35 seconds, and Woodstock won the team title.
Chaffin finished in 16:41.9 to take first. Woodstock’s Jack Hansen was second in 17:16.4, leading five Blue Streaks in the top 10.
Richmond-Burton’s Ethan Luedke was third, Woodstock North’s Frank Dudzik was fourth, and Woodstock’s Aiden Schleutermann was fifth.
Woodstock finished with 32 points, Marengo (54) was second and Johnsburg (91) was third.
East Suburban Catholic Conference Meet: At Melas Park in Arlington Heights, Marian Central’s Peter Walsdorf took second in 15:42, while teammate Ryan Jones was third in 15:52. Marist’s Thomas Leonard won the race in 15:16.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Kishwaukee River Conference Meet: At Emricson Park in Woodstock, Woodstock’s Shannon Koscinski won the race on her home course in 20:54.7, while Richmond-Burton took the team title with 36 points.
Catherine Miller (21:13.0) was second to lead R-B. Jane Wisniewski was sixth, and Amanda Allport was seventh.
Woodstock North was second with 42 points, led by Amber Elliott, Abby Hartmann and Hannah Pittman, who finished third through fifth.
East Suburban Catholic Conference Meet: At Melas Park in Arlington Heights, Marian Central’s Siobhan Stoll won the meet in 18:03.
