Crystal Lake Central High School all clear after gas smell-related soft lockdown

Crystal Lake Central went on a soft lockdown starting about 10 a.m. Thursday after a gas smell was noticed near the school’s culinary kitchen.

Both Nicor and the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded and investigated the incident, finding that there was no threat, according to an email to the school’s parents from Principal Eric Ernd.

“We want to reiterate that there was never a threat to students or staff,” Ernd said. “We appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Safety continues to be a top priority.”

After the lockdown, students and staff resumed their normal schedules.
