McHenry police urged drivers to avoid Route 120 and River Road in McHenry after a “minor” car crash on Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called to the scene about 1 p.m. Public Information Officer Patrick Polidori said a vehicle traveling east on Route 120 ran a red light and collided in the intersection with a vehicle traveling north on River Road.
Polidori said one lane was shut down for about 20 minutes Sunday afternoon while officers cleaned up.
Both vehicles had their airbags deployed and were towed because of the extent of the damage, Polidori said.
He said the two women who were riding in the eastbound vehicle were taken to McHenry’s Northwestern Medicine Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Polidori said that only minor injuries were reported.
The driver of the vehicle traveling east was cited for disobeying the red light, Polidori said.
