To the Editor:
I’m livid. I received a bill summary from a local hospital for a consultation I had with a pain management specialist. A consultation. Nothing else. The bill summary indicated the charge to be a clinic fee of $306.23 and professional fees in the amount of $149.32 for a total of $455.55. A consultation. Nothing else. Did I have to pay for simply walking in the door?
Medicare will negotiate that price down significantly, and my supplemental will cover whatever Medicare doesn’t pay. However, that’s not the point. An uninsured person will be expected to pay the full amount. In most cases these are the very people who can afford it the least.
We need healthcare reform, and we need it now!
