Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Shame on the three McHenry Township Trustees that voted to eliminate the Senior Bus Service. To Mr. Verr, Mr. Rakestraw and Mr. Anderson you are disgraceful human beings. I just watched the Youtube video of the meeting where you voted to eliminate this service and you were all unbelievably cold.

Poor Mr. Rakestraw doesn't think it's fair for him to have to pay for something he does not use. I guess that logic means we should all stop paying for the schools if we no longer have children in them.

Mr. Anderson, who fights having townships at every opportunity, is clearly trying to dismantle all township services one by one until he gets his wish to abolish township government. Remember the referendum to abolish the road district? Mr. Verr, you were the most infuriating of all with your sarcasm and rude behavior.

I do not use this service, nor do I work for the township but I try to be a compassionate person. I paid 3% of my real estate taxes to the township and about 15 cents per week or about $8.00 per year goes to the Senior Bus Service.

The township is providing about 240-250 rides per week to those in need. The three of you clearly couldn't have cared less when those who count on this service spoke at the meeting.

The young man with autism who uses this to get to and from work, the veteran who uses the bus, the young girl with cerebral palsy who travels to work. Mr. Rakestraw's feeling is that you should all find people to help you. I guess he thinks you need to get more friends. Well, I think the majority of the people in this township would like to be their friends by continuing to pay their 15 cents per week so they can continue to get around.

If that is a financial hardship for you three trustees, maybe someone could set up a GoFundMe Page for you so you can afford your 15 cents.
