SLEEPY HOLLOW — Drivers are advised to be wary of a section of Route 72 in Sleepy Hollow until a large pothole can be addressed.
The 32-foot-long, 6-inch-deep pothole is on Route 72 between Sharon Drive and Hickory Drive, according to Sleepy Hollow Chief of Police Jim Linane and emergency dispatch.
It was brought to the police department's attention over the weekend while an officer was helping a driver whose tire blew out after hitting the pothole, Linane said.
"A second officer came by to assist and when that officer came, he hit the same pothole," Linane added. "We're thinking it'll be about $1,000 worth of damage to that squad car from this one pothole."
There have been other vehicles damaged based on rim marks visible at the site of the pothole, he said.
Linane said the Illinois Department of Transportation has been notified, but he did not know exactly when IDOT would respond and repair the road.
