A 40-year-old McHenry man is accused of sexually assaulting a child on multiple occasions during a span of more than two years.
Ramiro Gonsalez-Garcia remained at the McHenry County Jail Thursday morning on a $300,000 bond in connection with the allegations. Officers with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office arrested Gonsalez-Garcia on Feb. 2, after receiving a report from a concerned parent, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Police learned through a criminal investigation that Gonsalez-Garcia, of the 3100 block of Lake Street, had been sexually assaulting a child in his care, according to the release. It was not immediately clear how Gonsalez-Garcia might have known the child.
Officers originally arrested the man on seven counts of predatory criminal sexual assault – a Class X felony typically punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Gonsalez-Garcia was then taken to the McHenry County Jail, where he was later charged with two additional counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, according to the release.
Police believe the alleged abuse occurred between August 1, 2017 and January 25, 2020, when the child was younger than 13 years old, court records show.
Gonsalez-Garcia would need to post $30,000 of his total bond to be released. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28.
