High school boys basketball: Three local players make 4A All-State honorable mention

Cary-Grove’s Beau Frericks and Frank Jakubicek and Huntley’s Uchenna Egekeze all received honorable mention on The Associated Press Class 4A All-State boys basketball team that was released Thursday.

Media members around the state voted on the Classes 3A and 4A teams.

Frericks received 16 points, while Jakubicek and Egekeze both got six points to make the honorable mention list.

All three were selected to the Northwest Herald All-Area first team, announced Tuesday night. Frericks was the Northwest Herald Player of the Year, and he and Jakubicek were repeat first-team picks.

Frericks, a 6-foot-1 guard who will play at NCAA Division II Lewis, led the area in scoring (20.2 ppg.), free-throw percentage (88.7) and 3-pointers (94) while helping the Trojans to a 31-3 record and the Fox Valley Conference championship. They also won a regional for the second time in school history.

Jakubicek, a 6-8 forward who is headed to D-I Belmont, shot 61.9% from the field and averaged 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He blocked 46 shots and had more than 35 dunks.

Egekeze, a 6-3 guard, handled the ball a lot for the Red Raiders (27-6) and averaged 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds. He was one of their top defensive players and helped them to their first regional title since 2014.
