Average gas price in Illinois at $2.06

Gas prices across the state and country continue to plummet as the COVID-19 pandemic brings daily life to a near standstill with less transportation and travel.

As of Thursday afternoon, the average price for gas in Illinois dropped to $2.06 a gallon, according to the fuel analysis company GasBuddy – down 2.8 cents from last week and 53.3 cents from last month.

The average national price is slightly lower at $2.02 a gallon, down 12.6 cents from last week and 44.2 cents from last month. A year ago the national average was $2.68 and Illinois average was $2.76.

The average price of gas in McHenry County was $2.02 a gallon as of 1 p.m. Thursday. Among neighboring counties, the average price of gas in Will County was $2.10, followed by DuPage ($2.09), Lake ($2.07), Kane ($2.06) and DeKalb ($2.03).

The average price of gas in LaSalle County was $1.96 a gallon and the average price in Kendall was $1.95. In Chicago, drivers paid an average of $2.24 a gallon, which is down 11.7 cents from last week and 58.6 cents from last month.

The cheapest gas in Illinois, according to GasBuddy, was at Costco at 5000 Stadium Drive in Loves Park and Sam’s Club at 7241 Walton St. in Rockford with prices at $1.18 and $1.23 a gallon, respectively.

Gas for less than $2 can be found throughout McHenry County and surrounding areas. Some, however, do require membership subscriptions.

Gas prices at both Costco at 250 N. Randall Road in Lake in the Hills and Sam’s Club at 5670 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake were $1.47 and among the cheapest in the state, according to GasBuddy.

Elsewhere in McHenry County, Mobil at 4304 N. Johnsburg Road in Johnsburg was $1.79, BP at 5301 Bull Valley Road in McHenry was $1.84, and Amoco at 339 W. Virginia St. in Crystal Lake was $1.85.

Gas at the Love’s Truck Stop in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, is listed at 99 cents a gallon.

In Lake County, gas at Woodsman’s at 1550 Deerfield Parkway in Buffalo Grove was $1.39 a gallon. Elsewhere, Woodman’s at 27555 Route 120 in Lakemoor was $1.49, Sam’s Club at 335 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Vernon Hills was $1.58, Costco at 25901 Riverwoods Road in Mettawa was $1.59, and Costco at 680 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich was $1.75.

In Kane County, gas at Woodman’s at 151 Hansen Blvd. in North Aurora was $1.65, Costco at S. Randall Road in St. Charles was $1.75, and BP at 1190 N. McLean Blvd. in Elgin was $1.83.

Gas at $1.87 a gallon was at BP at 695 Barrington Ave. in Carpentersville, Speedway at 115 N. Eighth St. in West Dundee, Thorntons at 2171 S. Eighth St., Shell at 801 W. Main St. in West Dundee and Walmart at 365 Lake Marian Road in Carpentersville.

In DeKalb County, gas at Marathon at 411 Main St. in Kirkland was $1.64 a gallon. Elsewhere, Casey’s at 129 E. Railroad St. in Kingston was $1.69, and Casey’s at 1001 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb and Marathon at 125 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb were $1.90. Gas at Mobil at 930 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb was $1.93, and Casey’s at 902 E. Church St. in Sandwich and Casey’s at 900 E. Market St. in Somonauk were both at $1.96.

In Will County, gas was $1.51 at Mohsen at 24001 Lorenzo Road in Wilmington. Elsewhere, gas at $1.56 a gallon was at Thorntons at 24144 W. Eames St. in Channahon, Pilot at 23841 W. Eames St. in Channahon, Casey’s at 25258 W. Eames St. in Channahon and Speedway at 23730 W. Eames St. in Channahon.
