To the Editor:
Why is Governor Pritzker trying so hard to save some of the people of Illinois but not all? He has ordered us to stay at home and use masks in public.
He has given us daily reports of how many hospital beds, masks and gloves are needed to save lives. He has reminded us to social distance, wash hands frequently and disinfect.
Yet, out of the 12.7 million people in the state of Illinois, there have been 4,790 deaths attributed to the coronavirus. This death toll was reported in the May 23 issue of the Northwest Herald.
I understand that Governor Pritzker wants to save lives, but why does he also want to terminate them by abortion? According to the Annual Illinois Abortion Report there were 42,441 induced pregnancy terminations in 2018.
This is up 7% from 2017. On June 12, 2019 our governor signed a sweeping abortion rights bill which will probably increase the number of abortions. Using the available 2018 figures that would be approximately 3,536 abortions a month which is higher than the 4,790 Coronavirus deaths spread over the last few months.
Governor Pritzker wants to save lives, but he is a staunch supporter of a woman's right to end a life because it is her body and her choice. How is that fair to the aborted babies, half of which are female? Where are their rights?
Governor Pritzker wants to save lives. But whose lives? Those who can pay taxes or vote for him in the next election?
