To the Editor:
I’m writing this in response to the, “ Have fun, but drive safely" letter.
We live in close proximity to South Green Street, near Knox Park and Route 31 by McDonalds, and are regularly subjected to the noise of screaming motorcycles and speeding vehicles that sound like the exhausts have been beefed up, or removed entirely.
These drivers may relish in the noise they make, while at the same time giving abandon to the speed limits. In essence, having total disregard for the county noise abatement laws, and safe driving laws. During the work commute, especially late afternoons and weekends, it’s a sure bet you can kiss your peace and quiet goodbye.
Perhaps, the county board of McHenry County should consider installing Noise Sensitive Receptors in these traffic areas, and possibly, The McHenry Police could take note and increase patrolling, hopefully bringing attention to an ongoing problem.
I’m confident our neighborhood is not the only one experiencing excessive noise and speed violations. As residents, we need to speak up.
Be smart and stay safe!
