Letter: Vote no to Fair Tax Proposal

To the Editor:

This letter is in response to the Fair Tax Proposal being supported in a Letter to the Editor published on May 27. Who in their right mind would want to continue to push the people that are paying the most income taxes to the state of Illinois out of this state?

The Fair Tax Proposal is just another money grab by Pritzker and the politicians in Springfield. Pritzker and the rest of the politicians in Springfield do not have the backbone to say what the real problem is to the state's finances. The real problem is the state's obscene public pension system.

I am retired, along with many more of my friends, and not one of us gets a 3% compounded raise to our pensions every year. It is time to put the question to the voters to see if there should be a change to the Illinois Constitution on state employee pension and benefit plan.

One more thing Tony, how did that gas tax work out for you? On May 17, I filled my truck up with gas in Genoa City, Wisconsin for $1.59 a gallon and when I pulled into Crystal Lake it was selling for $2.19 a gallon.

Tony, that gas tax is killing Illinois drivers and small business owners! I no longer buy gas in Illinois whenever possible. Anybody that goes to the website illinois.gov/fairtaxcalculator and believes what the state says is really part of the problem that we have here in Illinois.
