To the Editor:
In the Observer, I read a moving prayer to God our Creator from the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops on Religious Liberty. Acknowledging that we have received our liberty from Him, it calls us to have the courage to make our voices heard for freedom of conscience for all people of faith.
It acknowledges that this is a decisive hour for our nation and that we must do this for our children and all those who come after us. I find this deeply moving and inspirational. Any church or individual could easily make the same statement.
Among other reasons for making this statement is the current HR5 bill passed by Pelosi’s current majority. Among other effect this would end conscience objections to mandated participation in abortions. Both local congressmen—Casten and Underwood—voted for this.
The current challengers—Jeanne Ives in District 6 and Jim Oberweis in District 14--- oppose HR5 and support our First Amendment religious freedoms. Much of the tumult in our society is distracting our attention from this.
