To the Editor:
Thank you for the July 21 Northwest Herald article and video interview of Rep. Sean Casten. It helps us to understand that while he describes himself as a “One Trick Pony,” that is clearly not what he is.
Within seconds, the viewer can see that Casten is not “just a climate nerd,” passionate about reversing devastating climate change, he is a highly intelligent professional who understands the science of climate, the market dynamics of industrial clean energy efficiency, the labyrinth of U.S. energy policy regulations, and the disastrous consequences to humanity of climate inaction.
His contributions to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis demonstrate clearly that he knows the science, he knows the human and technological solutions, and he is driven by a compassion for all citizens to get it done.
The interview shows his application of the same knowledge, systematic analysis, and compassion for others to the issues of health care and the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic has underscored the need for access to health care for all. He makes it clear that our economy depends on a healthy citizenry free of COVID-19 or any other virus. It is not a question of health versus the economy, the reality is that without healthy citizens who are willing and able to participate in the economy, there can be no healthy economy.
His actions in Congress on the behalf of District 6 demonstrate his versatility in promoting legislation designed to protect the health, livelihoods and lives of all citizens.
He understands that it was “cheaper to solve the problem yesterday than today, and it will never be cheaper to solve them than it is today.”
In essence, “a stitch in time, saves nine.” But in reality, if we don’t do the first stitches now, we may not have time for the others.
He's definitely not “a one trick pony!” Thank you for another chance to see who Rep.Sean Casten is and why he needs to be re-elected.
